Nigerian music diva Temilade Openiyi a.k.a Tems said Sunday night’s Grammy Award win was a dedication to her mother who has brought her up the right way.
Tems won the Grammy Awards for the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards with her song “Love Me Jeje.” It’s her first individual win after winning it with Drake in 2023 with the song “Wait for You.” She said the win is for her mother and it’s a befitting celebration for her birthday, which is today Monday February 3.
“It’s my mum’s birthday and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you ma because she has really done a lot for me and my brother. Happy birthday mum!
Fellow Grammy Awards contestant, David Adeleke a.k.a Davido sent his congratulations, the only Nigerian artist nominated for their awards to wish Tems well so far.
“Congratulations to my one and only! #chrisbrown! And to the Queen @temsbaby, we are proud of you!” Davido shared on X.
Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi also expressed joy at Tems winning the Grammy Awards in a category dominated by Nigerian nominations including Burna Boy, Asake, Davido, Yemi Alade.
“I am ever elated by the huge success Nigerian youths are making in various fields, especially in the entertainment sector.
“I like therefore to extend my hearty congratulations to our Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tems #temsbaby, who just secured her second Grammy Award with her win in the Best African Music Performance category.
“I also rejoice with Nigeria’s entertainment industry and other Nigerian artists who were nominated for different awards in their respective categories.
“Undoubtedly, Nigeria remains home to the endless flow of talents who through their creative arts, continue to put the nation on the global map,” Obi wrote on his X social media account.
