Former Super Eagles defender Sam Elijah has thumbs up the recall of Ahmed Musa to the Nigerian national team ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe this month.
Elijah said Ahmed Musa merited his call following his exploits with Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League. Ahmed Musa,32, who has scored 18 goals from 110 appearances for the Super Eagles has not featured in the team selection after his cameo role at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
“Inviting Ahmed Musa back to the national team is a good one.
“Ahmed Musa has been a very great motivator to the team and he is a very highly experienced and discipline player.
“For the new the gaffer to call him, he must have seen something in him. Although Ahmed Musa might not be playing in Europe again, but he is playing in one of the top club sides in Nigeria.
“In Nigeria, he has made a lot of impact. He has scored many goals and also influenced the team (Kano Pillars). It is a good moment for him, he can bring his experience to play in the matches and to also motivates others,” Elijah told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle released a 39-man list of players for the must win games against Rwanda topping the World Cup group C with seven points but on goal difference advantage over South Africa and Benin Republic. Nigeria with four points must win away in Kigali and beat bottom placed Zimbabwe in Uyo to brighten their chances of qualification.
