A group of women Monday marched through the streets of Port Harcourt calling for an extension of the emergency rule declared on Rivers State in March 2025, by President Bola Tinubu.
The women group dressed in all white attire carried placards bearing “State of Emergency is Constitutional”, “We Don’t Want Fubara,” as they sang solidarity songs for sole administrator of the State Ibok-Ette Ibas.
An ally of Nyesom Wike and former Commissioner for Social Welfare in Rivers, Ifeyinwa Aguma, led the women. Last week another group of women called for an end to the emergency rule and a quick reinstatement of Siminalayi Fubara as governor of Rivers State.
Meanwhile the Peoples Democratic Party governors’ forum threat to challenge President Tinubu’s declared emergency rule and suspend a democratically elected government in court is gathering momentum.
The PDP governors’ forum have signed on 11 Senior Advocates of Nigeria SANs to press their case at the Supreme Court.
The PDP governors are also contesting the appointment of a sole administrator by the President to manage the affairs of Rivers State pending the duration of the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The Supreme Court has yet to fix a date for the hearing.
