Veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem said that his song “Tell Your Papa” was inspired by watching President Bola Tinubu’s son Seyi telling Nigerian youths that his father was the best President Nigeria ever had.
Speaking on Channels TV interview on Sunday, Eedris who during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime also had a similar protest song “Jagajaga” said “Tell Your Papa” was not a direct hit on the Seyi and his father by was on a response to what was said by Seyi during one of his campaign tours of the north.
“I was inspired by Seyi Tinubu to record the song. I saw a video where he was campaigning for his father and he was defending his father, saying ‘My father is the best President, my father is the greatest President, they are coming for my father…’
“He (Seyi) repeated it like six times. But for Seyi, I differ because it looks more perfect when you are silent than when you speak. I would advise Seyi to hand over the microphone to the MC next time. He lacks the charisma and purpose to express himself, telling the truth about the true economic situation in Nigeria under his father’s government,” Eedris said.
“Tell Your Papa” has been banned from the airwaves by the National Broadcasting Commission saying it was inappropriate.
Banning the song from broadcast on Radio and TV has given it more popularity on social media. So far it has garnered 126,138 views and 3,600 likes in three days on YouTube, and also on Spotify it has streamed 30,116 times.
