Liverpool Sunday thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 to cement their hold on the 2025 Premier League title.
It was the first title for manager Arnie Slot in his first season in English football. As for Liverpool it is their 20th title, which brought them level with Manchester United. But in terms of trophies won from all games, Liverpool have five more making them England’s most successful club.
Goals from Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister, and an own goal from Destiny Udogie, sealed the victory after Dominic Solanke’s opening goal for Spurs.
Liverpool Manchester United and Arsenal as clubs that have won the Premier League with four games remaining.
But according to Slot he is keeping his celebrations on hold.
“There’s no plans to celebrate yet,” Slot said ahead of facing Leicester. “At this moment in time, not at all. I’m only thinking about trying to win a game of football against Leicester.”
Speaking of the game Spurs he added:
“It was clear we couldn’t lose this game. Everyone on the bus said there’s no way we’re going to lose this game.
“They always find a way to win. Incredibly proud, not only of the players but the people standing here, sport directors, my staff members, we should give them a big round of applause.
“Let’s forget it’s the second in 35 years, it’s the second in five years.”
Also Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his delight at the win.
“This is the most beautiful club in the world. We deserve this. We are going to enjoy the next couple of weeks and take it in.
“I was desperate to win it for [the fans] and all the fans around the world, and for us as well.”
