A kidnap gang behind the abduction of two Ghanaian women has been busted by a joint operation between the Ghana Police, National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force.
The two female victims who were seen being abused in online video were rescued according to a statement made by the Ghana Police on Thursday night. The video clip of one of the women, being assaulted with a machete sparked an outrage in Ghana.
One of the victims of the kidnap 39 years-old Ama Serwaa Konadu, a popular beautician and event decorator was taken by the gang on April 22, 2025, on her way to work in Asiakwa in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The gang used her own phone to send nude pictures of her to family members and demanded a ransom of GH₵500,000 (about N56.9m) for her release.
Eight gang members have been arrested in various locations in Ghana and Nigeria including the ringleader of the gang Okoribe Olohitare Ejeme, a female employee of the Port Harcourt International Airport’s Security (AVSEC).
“The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force, has rescued the two female victims of kidnapping captured on video which went viral,” the statement read. “Eight (8) suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the crime from their hideouts in Ghana and Nigeria,” said a statement made available to the media by the Ghana Police.
“The Ghana Police Service is immensely grateful to the NSB and the Nigeria Police Force for the collaboration and support in the rescue and arrest operations.”
