Embattled democratically elected Rivers’ State governor, Siminalayi Fubara said over the weekend he has mixed feelings of returning to power after he got suspended by President Bola Tinubu’s widely condemned state of emergency declaration on the State, on March 18, 2025.
Fubara speaking during a night of tributes for late Edwin Clark organised by Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum Sunday in Port Harcourt, revealed that: “spirit left the Government House long ago.”
“If I had my way, I wouldn’t want to return. But many people, including the late Chief Clark, have made sacrifices for me. That’s why I must stand by them.
“Do you think I’m even interested in going back? Just look at me—I look better now. I have peace. If I had my way, I wouldn’t go back there. My spirit left Government House long ago.
“Inasmuch as we must stand with those who made sacrifices for us, that doesn’t mean we should start shooting blindly. Let us stay focused.”
Meanwhile former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike believed to have instigated the emergency rule to oust Fubara said Monday in Abuja that his successor and two other governors paid him a visit in a bid to reconcile their differences.
“Yes, he visited,” Wike said when asked by reporters to confirm the story.
