Ashe Favour’s disqualification continues to dominate discussion in the track and field events of the National Sports Festival.
Favour was thrown out of the Gateway Games 100m final after he failed to wear his bibs back and front. He also did not show up in the call-room…The athlete later claimed that he was sabotaged
Speaking on the development and on other technical matters, popular coach Mark Tarzan stated that Favour should have been charged with misconduct for flagrantly violating the rules.
“In the US where Ashe Favour had been in competitions, he knows that he has to go through three different call rooms to check himself in and out,” coach Tarzan said.
“But here at the Sports Festival we only had one and he didn’t even bother to check himself in by the rules technically you are not present for the race . And even when he was corrected, he didn’t make any effort to put things right. I spoke to him myself, but he wouldn’t listen.”
Coach Tarzan who discovered sprinter Enoch Adegoke the silver medalist of the Gateway Games men’s 100m added that general the competition had not been measure up to technical standards.
“We could have done better but we have to manage with what we have, technically we have not done well.
“One area of major concern is the timing of the events. All the finals should be in the evenings where people can come and watch after the close of work.
“Also running the special sports races with after the able-bodied athlete had done their race. The special athletes should run first, because once the able-bodied athletes finished their race, the spectators are also leaving.”
