Former Athletics Federation of Nigeria technical director Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (rtd) said he is stepping down from the contest for the top seat of the federation.
The well respected World Athletics and CAA technical instructor said Thursday evening that after an evaluation of the electoral process and the politicking, he decided to rest his ambition for now.
“I have decided to step back from the race for the AFN presidency – for now. I remain hopeful and faithful that, if it is God’s will, I may have the opportunity to serve in this role in the future,” Nesiama said in a statement.
“When I first stepped forward, I felt a clear calling to bring about meaningful and positive change in Nigerian athletics.
“However, through ongoing consultations, deep self-reflection, and a strategic assessment of the current landscape, I have come to realize that the timing [both spiritually and practically] is not yet right.
“I also sense that the environment may not be fully prepared for the style of leadership I hope to offer, though this is difficult to fully express here. Perhaps my path is meant to unfold differently, in alignment with God’s greater plan.”
Nesiama added that his focus in athletics would be to develop himself to acquire more knowledge in the sport.
“I will focus on continuous self-improvement and seek opportunities to contribute at the international level. Nevertheless, I remain just a call away, ready to support the sport whenever needed.”
