Paris St Germain for the first time wrote their name on the Champions League trophy after they thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 Saturday night in Munich.
Though it wasn’t the exciting Champions League final football fans expected, it was worth the while for PSG who have suffered too many humiliations in their attempt to win the title.
They became the second French side to win the UCl after Olympique de Marseille clinched the title in 1993, by beating Italian side AC Milan 1-0 in the same German City of Munich.
It was a one sided game, but PSG deserve all the credit for a brilliant display against Inter Milan and fans watched with tears as their team was been massacred in Munich.
Achraf Hakimi opened the scoring in just 12 minutes and 19 years old Desire Doue followed up with a brace, before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu completed the routing of the Simeone Inzaghi coached side who were totally out played and overwhelmed.
It was the second highest defeat suffered in the UCL finals.Real Madrid blasted seven goals past Eintracht Frankfurt in 1960.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma who made just one save praised Luis Enrique for giving PSG freedom to express themselves.
“The coach gives us freedom, calm, the time to stay home with our families, because when preparing these important games, I think the more you are in the training ground thinking about it, the more pressure it builds. This is his philosophy and it works, I agree with it,” said the former AC Milan goalkeeper.
“We were so calm and confident, it barely felt like a Champions League Final. I know how much Italians care about this, I know the amount of determination they put into these situations, but we were so perfectly set-out, we had a lot of movement on the field and gave no reference points. I think that really helped too.”
