A stampede at a cricket stadium has left 11 persons dead and 50 others needing medical aid in Bengaluru, Southern India.
According to media reports the incident occurred during a victory celebration by fans of a local cricket team Royal Challengers Bengaluru who won a game in the In the India Premier League championship.
The crowd became uncontrollable leading to the stampede as thousands rushed to the Chinnaswamy Stadium to attend the celebrations.
Karnataka State Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the crowd was “uncontrollable.”
Stampedes are relatively common in India when large crowds gather. In January, at least 30 people were killed as tens of thousands of Hindus rushed to bathe in a sacred river during the Maha Kumbh festival, the world’s largest religious gathering.
