Long distance runner Ronke Akanbi returned from Russia where she and other Nigerian athletes had gone for a meet, with a new national record in the women steeplechase.
The 20-year-old talented runner posted 10.17.01 secs a new national record subject to ratification at the meet in Russia. This was after setting a festival record at the Gateway Games National Sports Festival in May and also posting a personal best 4:19.00 in the 1500m to win a double.
“I’m delight with the new timing in Russia, everything went on well there,” said Akanbi.
“But my major focus is on how to improve and be a world elite runner and this takes a lot of training and support.
“I want to be competition with the very best in Africa and in the world,” said the athletes who also holds the national 3000m record.
