Nigeria’s women national team the Super Falcons have arrived in Morocco to prepare for their opening match of the Women Africa Cup of Nations billed for July 6-23 in Morocco.
The nine-time WAFCON winners in the last edition lost to Banyana Banyan of South African in the final, but this time around according to team captain Rasheedat Ajibabe the Super Falcons are on a missing to win their 10th title.
“We are focused on mission X. For us, effort is everything,” Ajibade who has made three appearances at the WAFCON assured Nigerian fans.
Coach Justine Madugu reechoed Ajibade’s optimism. “We’re fully aware of our mission—‘La Decima’ or as it is popularly known here, ‘Mission X’. That’s the goal: to win our 10th WAFCON title and bring it back home,” he said,
“This isn’t just about us as a team; it’s also a statement for local coaches. A strong performance could open more doors for indigenous coaches in the future.”
On Monday the Super Falcons held Portugal to a 0-0 in a friendly in Lisbon and on Sunday they will face West African rivals Ghana in another friendly to wrap up their preparations.
The Super Falcons will open their campaign against Tunisia on Sunday, 6 July, in Casablanca, then after tackle Algeria and Botswana.
