As usual Delta State have the highest number in the list of selected athletes in Nigeria’s team list for the CAA U-18/U-20 Championships.
After two days of trials, which took place in Sagamu, Ogun State, Delta underlined the state’s dominance in grassroots sports development.
Thirty out of the 40 athletes who participated in trial made the list to fly Nigeria’s flag in the U18/U20 category.
This remarkable feat was fueled by the unwavering support of the Delta State Athletics Association, chairman Sir Itiako Malik Ikpokpo, who personally bankrolled the team’s participation at the trials.
He reiterated his commitment to invest in youth sports development to ensure that Delta maintained it’s long standing track and field dominance.
Some of the athletes to watch out for include Timothy Ugherakpoteni U-18 triple jump. Ajagbawa Frances women’s U-20 long jump and Ugwu Meshack also men’s U-20 long jump.
Others are Destiny Kenneth Christopher in the U18 girls’ Javelin.
