A Ghanaian Pastor Patricia Asiedua popularly known as Nana Agradaa has been jailed 15 years with hard labour for scamming members of her congregation thousands of cedis.
But Eric Oduro Asiamah her husband who is also a Pastor has vowed to continue with her “good works.” His wife who was previously a fetish priestess before being ‘born-again’ and then found the Heaven Way Champion Ministries based in Accra, was sentenced Friday for allegedly defrauding her Church memebrs.
“It’s normal. The church will continue its good works,” Pastor Asiamah told journalists.
He added that the fraud allegations against his wife arose from an all-night service, which was held in 2022.
According to Ghana Broadcasting Corporation reports, on October 5, 2022, Agradaa advertised on television and social media that she was organizing an all-night service on October 7 at her church, where she claimed she would distribute GH¢300,000 to attendees in need of financial support for rent or business.
The promise drew a large crowd to the church. Agradaa then instructed attendees to form groups of 20, with each person paying amounts of up to GH¢1,000. She claimed that if the first group each paid GH¢1,000, they would receive GH¢50,000 to share. She continued with similar offers, asking another group to pay GH¢900 each in exchange for GH¢40,000.
However, after collecting the cash, Agradaa shut absconded.
She was arrested by the police and charged to court in October 2022 however, she was granted bail while the trial lasted.
Prosecution witness ASP Emmanuel Haligah told the court she was not a first time offender having been convicted and fined GH¢10,000 for a similar offence in 2021.
