Kenyan President William Ruto has warned his political opponents not to stage a coup against him as protests continue to rock the country.
Mr. Ruto alleged that political leaders are plotting to destabilize his administration through unlawful means, reiterating that Kenya’s leadership will only be determined through the ballot in 2027.
“If anyone has political ambitions, let them prepare for 2027. But there will be no shortcuts in between,” President Ruto stated.
“This country will not be destroyed by a few people who are impatient and want to have a change in government using unconstitutional means. It’s not going to happen,”
The President pointed out that Kenya is a democracy governed by the constitution and dismissed any attempts to incite unrest or engineer an uprising. He noted that the recent destruction of property and loss of livelihoods during protests were instigated by certain political leaders intent on destabilizing the country.
“I’ve seen some leaders moving around town, claiming they won’t wait for the 2027 elections. They say they want to cause chaos, burn people’s property, and bring suffering to Kenyans in an attempt to overthrow the government before 2027. I want to tell them—let them try, and they’ll learn the hard way,” he warned.
He reiterated that his government will maintain law and order, stressing that he will use all available means to stabilize the country.
“I will protect the property and lives of Kenyans—this is the responsibility of the Government of Kenya under my leadership. This habit of destroying property and burning people’s businesses must come to an end. It has to stop. We cannot accept mayhem and anarchy to destroy the development we have achieved in our country,” he said.
He urged the police to stop all forms of protests and burning of public and private property.
“Anyone caught burning property or business should shot in the leg, break their legs take them to the hospital and later to court,” Ruto added.
