Rapper Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf a.k.a CDQ said he was never comfortbale wearing borrowed suits and working as a banker, which was his father’s wish for him.
CDQ while chatting on the Echo Room podacast said he had to quit and focus on his music which was his calling. The ‘Nowo Soke’ crooner said while in the banking hall he composed his lyrics rather than focus on the task he was given for the day.
“I quit my bank job. I couldn’t tell my mother or any family member then,” said the CDQ.
” I left the house and went to stay with Masterkraft in the studio. I told him banking isn’t my passion. I will probably just do it to make ends meet. But music is something that whether it gives me a return-back or not, I’m still happy doing it.”
The rapper said he told Masterkraft that they should concentrate on music and there will be a breakthrough within six months. He stated that their breakthrough came before the six months after they secured a deal and moved out of the ghetto to Lekki.
He revealed that he turned down a deal with Davido with whom he did a remix of “Indomie.”
CDQ said, “Davido reached out to me through Twitter back then that he wanted to sign me. He told me he just made a lot of money from his African tour and wanted to invest it in money and make me the biggest rapper in Africa.
“I told him whatever I’m doing, Masterkraft has to be involved. So, me and Masterkraft went to a meeting with him, and he told him that CDQ is already a movement on the streets and should consider a partnership instead of a recording deal but Davido decline and the deal fell through.”
