Tinubu... delaying envoy appointments

By Kingston Magare 6-8-2025

Lauretta Onochie a former political aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, has lashed out at President Bola Tinubu for refusing to appoint ambassadors for the country almost two years after recalling envoys from foreign missions.
Writing on her X social media page Wednesday Onochie noted that President Tinubu has failed to recognise the importance of the role ambassadors play in international relations. Tinubu recalled all Nigerian ambassadors across foreign missions in September 2023
“A strategist who doesn’t know that Nigeria needs ambassadors to relate with the rest of the world is running Nigeria like a private WhatsApp group,” she wrote.
“He prefers to relate to St. Lucia and Kazakhstan, where he can be idolised and worshipped for the right price.”
Tinubu’s administration in March said it has a list, but it was lack of funds that delayed naming the new diplomats.
