Nigeria’s Super Eagles may not be in the best frame of mind to play Congo in their last group D game of the African Nations Championship, following their the 4-0 drubbing handed to them by Sudan Tuesday night.
Coach Eric Chelle said his side has lost ambition to win after they were dumped out of the tournament having lost to Senegal 1-0 in their opening game. They have so far conceded five goals without scoring in two games. Against Congo who are desperate for points after posting another draw with Senegal, the Super Eagles coach can almost smell another defeat.
“We have lost all ambition. The CHAN is over for us. We have a third match to play for our honour and respect,” Chelle lamented.
Speaking on the outcome of the game against Sudan he added: I am disappointed by this match. It is the worst game I have overseen from the dugout as coach.”
“We cannot play a game like that and lose in the manner we did. We need to be more focused.”
“Though some important players left our preparations camp, these were the best players in our league,”
He said the his team had their confidence shaken after their goal was ruled offside.
“Our goal was ruled out, and afterwards, we made a lot of mistakes… four mistakes, four goals,” Eric Chelle told reporters at the post-match press conference.
“Our training session before the game went well. We analysed Sudan’s team. We prepared well, but were not ready for as many mistakes.”
