Nigeria’s Super Eagles played for pride and walked away with a 2-0 win over Congo in their last group D game of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Having lost to Senegal and Sudan the Nigerian side kissed the tournament goodbye as Senegal and Sudan advanced from Group D.
Sudan topped the group on goal difference, while Nigeria’s victory lifted them to three points, one short of qualification.
Sikiru Alimi set up Anas Yusuf for the first goal in the 55 minutes and he scored in added time to seal the win.
Congo, who needed a win to keep their own hopes alive, were outplayed by a more purposeful Super Eagles.
