An ode to the destroyed ancestry of the people, who once collected taxes from their neighbors, but have become aliens even at home. Impoverished by their own, through negotiated transactions.
To the people who gave out the land in a brazen unprecedented show of inhuman consideration, the land had to go and so it went, through the international court ruling at the Hague, how did we end up in court ? What were the details of the court resolutions? What are the contents of the green tree agreement that was reached ?
The Nigerian government had a role to play. The government of cross river state, also had a role to play. Frontline citizens , some of them who claimed to be victims and sons and daughters of the soil, played their roles with clinical precision, and they all had fun, and almost two decades after, while beneficiaries are feeding fat, all local uncompromising voices silenced, and the peace of the graveyard lingers. For the Bakassi people, no land, no oil, no occupation, no life.
The only thing that thrives is politics, where a few influencers are given peanuts and the rest of the people just find space, even in foreign lands , as long as they do not disturb.
But let’s examine the arrangements, or ask a few questions. What happened to the green tree agreement? What happened to all the promises that was made? What is happening with the local government allocation of resources?
What is going on with the Bakassi stabilization fund? Why are our government people at all levels quiet about the matter?
Why are the sons of the soil not able to do anything? Why? What has become of human kind? How did we lose our soul?
If the French cheated Nigeria at the Hague,why has the giant of Africa remained quiet through the regimes ?
Someone told me that the bible has it that the heart of man is desperately wicked, that is why nobody cares, he further explained that, it was for the same reason that, there is no sign that the government of cross river state collects any allocation for Bakassi. That is the reason also that the Bakassi stabilization fund is kept secret.
That it is the reason why Bakassi people are blackmailed into silence and submission. He quoted another bible portion, which says that, it will be taken from the have nots and give to those that have, could that be the story?
But it will not continue forever, for the only constant in life is change.
The emergence of the African Democratic Congress ADC, offers that opportunity to rescue Nigeria and reset Bakassi. Why would funds allocated for development , be unaccounted for? No trace and everyone is smiling, the Bakassi people must refuse impunity and demand for equity and justice. How are the resources deployed?
