Barely two weeks after returning from a tour to Japan and Brazil President Bola Tinubu Thursday left Abuja for a location in Europe where he would enjoy a 10-day “working holiday.”
According to a statement released by President Tinubu’s information and strategy adviser Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will spend his time between the UK and France where he had always retreated when in need of medical assistant.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today, September 4, to commence a working vacation in Europe, as part of his 2025 annual leave. The vacation will last 10 working days. President Tinubu will spend the period between France and the UK and then return to the country”. Onanuga said in the statement.
President Tinubu frequent travels in face of the social and economic crisis facing the nation have always been a topic of discussion for opposition figures who want him to sit back and tackle the challenges facing the nation headlong rather than embark on trips that do not immediately offer remedy to the dire situation faced by Nigerians.
According to budget watchdog BudgIT, the presidency spent at least N16.06 billion on foreign trips between June 2023 and May 2024. Of that, N10.93 billion was attributed directly to the president’s journeys, while additional amounts covered expenses by the vice president, first lady, chief of staff, and the presidential air fleet.
