Canadian legendary rocker Bryan Adams has given kudo to pop star Taylor Swift for doing justice to his song “Summer of ’69” during a concert in 2018.
During her 2018 Canadian tour at the Reputation Stadium, Swift brought out Adams as a special at her concert in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where they joined forces for a duet of the rocker’s hit song, “Summer of ’69.”
While reminiscing on the experience in a new interview with Guitar World, Adams said Swift, 35, is one of the only other musicians who has done “justice” to the 1985 hit single.
“There’s been all kinds of people who have taken the songs and remixed, rearranged, re-recorded, and done their versions, but very seldom has anyone beaten the original,” Adams told the outlet. “The only person I can think of who did a version of ‘Summer of ’69’, and did such justice was Taylor Swift.”
“Well, I think Taylor’s version—no pun intended—was when she invited me to sing with her,” Adams recalled, before going on to explain why Swift’s cover stands out among all the artists who have performed different renditions of “Summer of ’69.”
“She sang the lead vocal, I sang the harmony, and that was really fun for me because I’ve always thought that the harmony in that song is very subliminal on the record—but it’s there,” he said. “That harmony is one of the key things that most people don’t get when they hear the song, they don’t realize how important it is. But when I sang it with her, we nailed it.”
