The men and women 100m events of the 2025 World Championships unfolded as predicted by form book in Tokyo, Japan Sunday; Jamaica and the USA have the bragging rights respectively.
In the men’s 100m which was dampened by a Letsile Tebogo false start, Seville Oblique, out paced compatriot Kishane Thompson to clinch the gold at 9.77secs person best.
For a moment, it looked like a Noah Lyles and Thompson showdown, but at 60m Oblique obliterated the duo to win his first World Championships title and Jamaica’s first 100m gold since 2016 Olympics where Usain Bolt won it. Thompson was second with 9.82secs, Olympics 2024 champion Lyle’s, finished 9.89secs to win the bronze for the USA. Kayinsola Ajayi ran10.00secs. Leotlela and Ajayi had ran the fastest times in the heats. Veteran South African sprinter Akani Simbine finished at 10.04.
In the women’s 100m Melissa Jefferson Wooden of the USA simply blew away the field and posted a championships record of 10.61secs, which was also the fourth fastest time in history.
Tina Clayton of Jamaica who chased down Jefferson Wooden was compensated with a personal best of 10.76 secs, Olympics 2024 champion Julien Alfred took the bronze 10.84, at St Lucia have something to cheer. Shericka Jackson of Jamaica was fourth with 10.88 season best, former champion ShellyAnn Fraser-Pryce to her final bow from competitions as she posted 11.03
