Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara was nowhere to be found Thursday the day he was expected to resume duties at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Hundreds of his supporters waited for hours for his arrival, but by the closing of the day, the governor suspended by an emergency rule proclamation by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025 did not show up.
Roads leading to the Government House and surrounding Streets were lined up with supporters as early as 7.am. They celebrated the development with music and dancing, but Fubara did not show up all day.
It was reported that Fubara who is flying in from London was expected to arrive the Government House to assume duties and also speak to the supporters. Many in crowd expressed doubt if he would be the same governor that stood toe to toe with former governor Nyesom Wike in his attempt to dictate how Rivers State is run as they headed back home disappointed not to have seen the governor.
The State Assembly members had their first plenary on Thursday, barely 24 hours after the emergency rule was suspended and have called on governor Fubara to present his list of commissioners for screening.
Meanwhile the People’s Democratic Party has called on Fubara not to dump the party.
“The governor should not muster any fear; the deed has been done. He should continue strong and be faithful in doing what is expected of him as the governor of the state. Fubara must make Rivers great again.
“The governor should nurture the party that brought him to power into a bigger platform. He should not jettison that party. He should ensure the party becomes stronger in the state and region,” PDP vice-chairman (Lagos Central), Hakeem Olalemi said.
“There is no need for us to clap, dance, jump, or celebrate that Governor Fubara has been reinstated. He has gotten back the mandate freely given to him at the ballot but now weakened.”
