Plans to organise the 2025 Igbo Day and new yam festival in Accra, Ghana by Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu the self-proclaimed Eze Ndi Igo in Ghana has been thrown into chaos.
The event was billed to hold on Sunday September 21, 2025, at the Efua Sunderland Children’s Park in Accra, but according to the Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the traditional ruler in Accra, the event cannot hold.
He said in a statement Friday that the celebration defied an earlier caution to the Igbo “chief” to refrain from holding traditional and cultural festivities under the guise of importing Igbo customs into the Ga State. The statement warned that such activities could spark tension and disturb peace and security in the region.
In a letter to Dr Ihenetu and also copied to the Ghana Police, Ministry of Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Ministry of Interior, the Ga Mantse warned the Eze Ndi Igbo to desists from any act capable of breaching the peace and security in the community.
This episode is coming days after the Eze Ndi Igbo Ghana was snubbed at the palace of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who lost his wife.
Efforts to reach Dr. Ihenetu for comments proved abortive as he did not answer calls made to his cell phone.
