All is now set for the maiden Olojo Festival 5Km run billed for September 25, 2025 in Ile-Ife Osun State.
The race which is an initiative of the Sooko Adeleke Odewade and Aladefa Athletics family is meant to promote peace, unity and wellness. It is part of celebrations of the Olojo Festival, which according to the Ooni of Ife Oba, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, is a festival that celebrates the Black race all over the world.
“It is the first time in the history of Yoruba Land such an athletics event will be approved to be part of the Olojo festival which has been on for hundreds of years,” former Nigerian 100m hurdles champion Taiwo Aladefa stated.
“We have the support of the Ooni Ife and my great Uncle Sooko Adeleke Odewade and we are good to go.”
She added that over 300 athletes and fun runners have registered in the event.
“This is just a test run of bigger things we plan for the Olojo Festival run we hope that the next edition will be full blown with participation of big sponsorships.
“For now we have over 300 athletes ready to run and thankfully the Imperial Brewery Limited has approved the supply of unlimited amounts of drinks, we have Mokoro Water, and some other support from here and there so we are good to go for the maiden edition.”
