Striker Victor Osimhen was given five minutes in Galatasaray’s 1-0 win over Alanyaspor in the Turkey Super League, to prepare him for Wednesday’s Champions League tie against Liverpool.
According to Gala’s manager Okan Buruk, Osimhen needs to be fit for Liverpool’s visit to the Rams Park Stadium in Istanbul, hence he has to play through pain on Friday.
Osimhen who picked up an ankle injury in the Super Eagles World Cup qualifier tie against Rwanda in Uyo, was making his first outing for Galatasaray in two weeks.
“We wanted to play Osimhen for 10 minutes,” Buruk told reporters. “We wanted him to experience the pain. Sometimes there’s pain, and playing through pain is important.
“We’ll assess his pain and physical condition before thinking about the next match.
“We may have changed our formation and had trouble covering the opposition. However, we’re taking these risks to ensure he plays.”
Osimhen has scored two goals in 214 minutes of club action this season.
