Bandits who attacked Oke-Ado community in Kwara State left 12 Forest Guards, and two others dead, the police confirmed on Monday.
According to Kwara police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi the attacked occurred on Sunday
The bodies of the 12 guards were found by a team of police officers and members of the National Forest Security Service created by President Bola Tinubu to help combat terrorists hiding in the forests across the country.
“The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” Ejire-Adeyemi said, adding that four survivors are being treated in hospital.
Meanwhile in Essanti communities in Pategi Local Government, bandits abducted the two sons of the communities leader in broad daylight on Monday.
The victims were reportedly seized around 1:30 p.m. while returning from their farm. It was gathered that the bandits have been raid the communities.
On Sunday night, bandits launched a violent raid on Marri Village in the Patigi Local Government Area of the state, leaving one person dead and another injured.
Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has called on the military to “rout the criminals involved in attacks in parts of the state.”
He said in a statement: “I urge our brave residents to remain calm and avoid the temptation to turn on ourselves. I equally commend all the forest guards and the local hunters who, though lost five of their compatriots, equally neutralised several of the attackers.”
