Bandits have now carved out their own states in parts of northern Nigerian; a social activist Mahdi Shehu has cried out.
Mahdi said bandits in the Bakori local government area of Katsina State for instance, now parade and impose their own rules on the communities without restrain of federal law enforcement agents.
Writing on his X social media page Thursday he said the bandits have killed, maimed, raped, and displaced hundreds of thousands of villagers across the North, leaving many communities traumatized and impoverished.
“The bandits have effectively carved out their own state within a state, where their rules override those of the government,” Mahdi stated
Meanwhile in Zamfara State eight security officers comprising of policemen and members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard (CPG), popularly known as ‘Askarawa have been killed by bandits.
According to reports the security agents were ambushed by the armed to the teeth bandits on the Funtuwa-Gusau road in the state.
“We received the news with great sadness that bandits ambushed and attacked a police convoy and our Community Protection Guard personnel on the Funtuwa-Gusau road, killing eight officers,” Zamfara State governor Dauda Lawal confirmed the killing.
“May Allah have mercy on them and grant their families and loved ones patience in this loss.
“We pray to Allah to bring an end to this security problem in Zamfara State, the North, and Nigeria as a whole.”
In another incident Thursday morning bandits stormed a mosque in Maradawa, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting several worshippers during the early morning Subhi prayers.
Witnesses said the assailants, who arrived in large numbers, surrounded the mosque and whisked away an unspecified number of people before fleeing into the nearby forest.
