Remo Stars can kiss the CAF Champions League goodbye after they were thrashed 5-1 by Mamelodi Sundowns at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Kuto Abeokuta, Ogun State on Sunday.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup participants left no one in doubt about their superiority over the Nigerian representatives with relentless waves of attacks and in just 12 minutes Remo Stars were already feeling dazed.
Tashreeq Mathews opened the scoring for the South Africans, Peter Shalulile added the second in the 42nd minute.
Hopes of a fight back by Remo Stars were snuffed out in the 61st minute as Miguel Reisinho made it three for Sundowns, Arthur Sales added the fourth and two minutes later Samson Olasupo pulled one back for Remo Stars, however Sundowns had the last laugh as Katlego Ntsabeleng rounded off the rout in the 85th minute.
Remo Stars must now score four goals without conceding at the at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa next Sunday, to stand a chance of moving into the group stages of the contest.
