A young Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré has died in Kumasi, Ghana after been lured there by kidnappers pretending to football scouts.
The 18-years-old Toure left home with promise of undergoing trials and securing a professional contract. According to the Senegal’s Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, he unsuspectingly walked into the hands of kidnappers.
The kidnappers after about week demanded a ransom from his family, but they couldn’t raise the money and the young lad was murdered in cold blood.
The Senegalese government has confirmed that an investigation is underway in collaboration with Ghanaian authorities.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible, and to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the case.
Cheikh Touré was remembered by friends and teammates as a humble, dedicated, and talented young player with a bright future ahead of him.
