Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of popular Ghanaian President late Jerry Rawlings has died in Accra at 76.
According to family sources, Nana Konadu died Thursday morning October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital. During her time at the as First Lady, she was a great influence in her husband’s regimes both in military and a civilian President between 1979 and 2001.
She remained active in Ghana politics and supported women’s empowerment. In 2016 she became the first Ghanaian woman to contest the presidency.
Nana Konadu was born in Cape Coast in the Central Region. She attended Ghana International School and later moved to the Achimota School, where she met Jerry John Rawlings, who later became her husband.
She went on to study Art and Textiles at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.
Jerry Rawlings, who as a young military officer orchestrated two coups to seize control of the government in Ghana, then led the country for 20 years, died November 12, 2020, at 73.
