Super Falcons players had to endure run down facilities in Lome Togo, where they would battle their Benin Republic counterparts in Friday’s first leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying tie.
The Super Players were seen in videos walking through ghetto like environment to the training pitch provided for them. But despite the conditions coach Chris Madugu stated that their main goal is beat the Benin Amazons
“We have a team that will go out there and make us proud. Yes, we would have loved to have Jennifer (Echegini) but we do not, and we can only pray for her to recover quickly,” Madugu told thenff.com.
“On Friday, we will go out and play our game and seek the goals that will put us in a good stead ahead of the return leg.”
Madugu remains optimistic about his team’s depth and quality, with the likes of Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Christy Ucheibe expected to lead Nigeria’s charge.
Nigeria will host the reverse fixture at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Tuesday next week, where they will look to seal qualification and continue their quest for a record-extending 12th WAFCON title.
