Following threats by US President Donald Trump to unleash American military might in Nigeria in face of unchecked terror attacks, President Bola Tinubu has signified his intention to meet with Mr. Trump for discussion.
Trump on Saturday, said on his Truth Social media handle that Nigeria was not doing enough to stop the killing of Christians even as Tinubu’s officials alluded that the terror attacks in the northern part of the country affected all Nigerians irrespective of their religion.
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet.”
Writing on his X social media platform Sunday, Tinubu’s adviser on information and strategy Bayo Onanuga maintained that Tinubu was working hard to stop the terror attacks in the north and middle belt regions of the country.
“President Bola Tinubu was well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America as he told the new service chiefs on Thursday what Nigerians expect of them. No more excuses, he said. Nigerians want results,” Onanuga wrote.
Also, Daniel Bwala adviser on policy communication added that: “As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences if they exist would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in State House or White House.”
