Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, a.k.a Davido, has drawn the ire of fans following the chaos that almost marred his gig at the Michael Okpara Square in Enugu State.
The show is part of Davido’s “5ive Tour” of Nigeria, which is taking him to Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Enugu, Ibadan, and Lagos.
The tour began in Akwa Ibom on October 26, continued in Adamawa on October 29, and made its third stop in Enugu on November 1. It is expected to conclude with two more shows at Ibadan on November 9 and Lagos on December 25.
In Enugu more than 40, 000 people turned up; more than the venue can handle leading to the bedlam. Even at that; Davido arrived at the venue to perform at 3.00am, when he was supposed to start at 4.00pm.
Fans took to Instagram social media to share distressing accounts.
@adis_beautification: “None of them were wearing the tag. Those without a ticket entered; the gate was broken, and the security guards weren’t at the gate. The security personnel did a terrible job. Touts entered. They used razor blades to tear bags. So does it mean if we go to a concert, our safety is not guaranteed? The number of girls who were robbed was a lot. Unfortunately, my phone was stolen.”

“I lost my nails; the crowd was too much. Everybody was just entering.”
@mmachukwu wrote: “This was my experience at Davido’s concert in Enugu. If I had known what was good for me, I would have stayed home. The entrance was crazy. There were tasers, there were canes. People would just be going in, trying to pass through the gates, and all of a sudden, there would be a huge crowd pushing everyone backwards. Everyone would be falling down. If you look forward, you’ll see the security using one very long cane flogging everyone in his line of sight, and they were literally tasering people. You’d just be there and hear a taser going off on somebody’s body multiple times.”
@mirabel_merra: “When the security got tired, they just abandoned the gates. The way people were pushing, if I hadn’t held my sister, she would have fallen. The stampede was real—gates were forced down, people were falling over each other, and security completely broke down.”
