Five nursing mothers have been kidnapped by bandits who invaded Shanono communities in the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident happened on Sunday evening in the community that was attacked a week earlier with the Nigeria army repelling the attack and killing 19 members of the gang.
Sunday’s attack was like a reprisal attack on the community, five women taken and their babies thrown into the bush by the bandits. However, one of them was lucky to have escape from the grip of the criminal gang who came in convoy of motorbikes. The others were taken away with a large number of cattle to an unknown destination.
According to Yahya Bogobiri who is the community leader in Faruruwa Shanono they got information that the bandits were coming to attack them and the military was alert, but during the raid there was no military that came to their rescue.
He said despite the presence of the military in the area the bandits were undeterred.
“We continue to witness these attacks almost daily, despite the presence of the military and other security operatives. Even during yesterday’s attack, we heard they were coming and alerted the security personnel, but nothing was done until they arrived around 9 p.m., raided houses, and abducted the nursing mothers,” Bagobiri said.
“We appreciate the government’s immediate response in deploying the military to our area, and we are grateful for that gesture. However, we urge the authorities to strengthen the forces and provide more armed personnel in the affected communities,” he pleaded.
