Super Eagles players have been paid their outstanding bonuses, and they are happy to face Gabon in Thursday’s World Cup qualifiers playoff in Rabat, Morocco.
The team missed Tuesday and Wednesday’s morning training ahead of the crucial game after they stayed back in their hotel rooms in protest against the Nigeria Football Federation for going silent on allowance and bonus owed from far back 2019.
However, following the intervention of the National Sports Commission, the Super Eagles returned to training Wednesday evening at about 5 p.m.
“Issue RESOLVED. Outstanding financials cleared and on ground. Team is UNITED and focused as before on representing NIGERIA with our maximum for the games ahead,” captain William Troost Ekong wrote on his X page.
Nigeria need to beat Gabon and have one foot in getting the ticket. They will play the winner between Congo DR and Cameroon on Sunday to determine the team that progresses to the inter-confederation play-offs for a chance to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
