Gabon coach Thierry Mouyouma has backed top striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to be at his best and deliver when they play against Nigeria on Thursday in the World Cup qualifier playoffs in Rabat Morocco.
Aubameyang a proven goal scorer has kept Gabon’s hope of qualifying for the World Cup with seven goals from five matches.
“Pierre-Emerick is 36, but I feel like he’s getting better with age,” Mouyouma said to Afrik Foot.
“He’s been one of the best African players for over ten years. He came back to Marseille after a season in Saudi Arabia, and he’s performing well.
“With the national team, it’s not just his goals that stand out. His attitude is excellent.
“He’s a competitor, and when I met with him after my appointment to convince him to come back, I also emphasised the leadership role he would play.”
Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi Aubameyang’s team at Arsenal acknowledged that the Gabon striker is one player that will give the Super Eagles headache in Thursday game.
“I don’t know how we are going to block him. I’m sure he wants to go to the World Cup as well,” Iwobi told BBC.
