Up and coming Super Eagles defender, Benjamin Frederick has revealed that keeping Gabonese top striker, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang quiet in Thursday’s World Cup qualifier playoffs in Rabat, Morocco was not an easy task.
Fredrick,20, started ahead of captain William Troost Ekong and he was quite a marvel to watch as he pocketed Auba who led Gabon to an unbeaten run in the group qualifiers, but fell short against Cote d’Ivoire who topped their group.
Against the Super Eagles Gabon were torn to shreds with Fredrick being one of the star performers in the 4-1 win.
“Playing against Aubameyang was a huge lesson for me,” Fredrick said in a chat with OGN.
“It wasn’t easy like how you were seeing it. His movements was crazy and it kept me running all the time. He can come from the left, right, central and also drop deep. It’s not easy keeping up with him.”
Fredrick had an excellent partnership with Calvin Bassey in the center and often joined the attack when not marking Auba, one of Fredrick’s daring runs up front set Victor Osimhen up for the first of two goals.
He is expected to make another good showing in Sunday’s final against Congo DR.
