A Saudi Islamic Cleric Sheikh Assim Al Hakeem known for preaching hate against Christians and others who don’t share his faith has been speaking in various venues in Nigeria.
Al Hakeem who preaches to Muslims to either kill or enslave Christians was granted visa to come into the country by the President Bola Tinubu’s administration following his invitation to deliver a keynote address at an event organised by the 1Ummah Islamic Organisation, other speakers include former minister of communications Isa Ali Pantami who is a known Muslim extremist.
1Ummah a platform for impactful knowledge sharing, learning and dissemination of Islamic values and teachings was formed in 2013. Aliko Dangote is one of the major financiers of the Organisation.
The first of the event was held in Lagos between November 15-16, another engagement is scheduled for Abuja on November 22, 2025.
In a YouTube video posted on April 1, 2020, Al Hakeem preached to his fellow believers to kill non-Muslim who refused to refuse to convert to Islam, pay taxes to Islamic government or obey the Sharia law. The controversial video had 86,993 views and over 2,800 likes.
“If we fight you, then we capture you, you’ll become our slaves, and we’ll take your land, because you refused; I [we] give you two good options, this is the strength of Islam,” Al Hakeem who is not liked by the authorities in his native Saudi Arabia for his extreme views preached in the video.
His coming to Nigeria coincides with an on-going debate about “Christian genocide” in Nigeria. US President Donald Trump and his allies had warned Nigeria to end the violence and discrimination against Christians in Nigeria or else the USA will march in with its army.
The Nigerian government and other notable religious and political figures denied there was “Christian genocide” in Nigeria even as stories of violence against Christians reported and unreported by the media continued to emerge from most especially the north and central part of the country.
