Top striker Victor Osimhen is expected to undergo scans to determine the extent of the muscle strain he suffered while playing for the Super Eagles in Sunday’s World Cup playoffs in Rabat, Morocco.
Osimhen was replaced at half time in their 4-3 penalty shootout loss the Super Eagles suffered to the Congo DR Leopards and missed out for a second consecutive World Cup.
Galatasaray officials are hopeful their star player will be fit to play when they take on Fenerbahce on December 1 Turkey league derby.
“A meeting was held with Osimhen late last night. The exact situation will become clear after the MRI.
“[There is] suspicion of either a muscle or hamstring injury. Osimhen couldn’t continue the match because he felt pain in one of the two areas.
“I think there’s a 51% chance Osimhen won’t play in the Fenerbahçe derby in Kadıköy,” Turkish journalist Ali Naci Kucuk said during a discussion on Sky Spor TK.
Osimhen, who has struggled with thigh and hamstring injuries in recent seasons, has just five weeks to recover in time to represent Nigeria in their opening AFCON tie against Tanzania on December 23.
