Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong according to reports has given a hint he may not be available for the African Cup of Nations next month.
Reports by MikeThePundit said Troost Ekong told his teammates after Nigeria was bundled out of the 2026 World Cup, he may be retiring from the national team.
“Troost Ekong considering retirement from the Super Eagles. The captain told the players after the DR Congo game, ‘I will watch you as a fan at the AFCON,’’ he quoted Troost Ekong as saying.
The 32-year-old has played a limited role with the Super Eagles in recent outings. He was not in the starting line-up in the team’s last three games.
During the cause of the World Cup qualifiers, Troost Ekong scored an own goal away against South Africa and was at fault for a Zimbabwe late minute equaliser in Uyo. Events that no doubt contributed to the Super Eagles ouster from the World Cup.
