Less than 24 hours after gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded a church in Kwara, four farmers have been kidnapped while working on their farms in a fresh attack.
The incident occurred Wednesday evening in the Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
On Tuesday evening the invaders attacked a Church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, three people killed and abducted some others.
“It has been confirmed that bandits struck again at Bokungi under the Lafiagi Emirate.
“Four people were abducted. Information is still emerging,” said a member of the community.
Residents said the gunmen operated for several minutes without resistance, forcing the farmers into the nearby bush before whisking them away toward an unknown destination.
Fearing for their lives the farmers have deserted their settlements and abandoned their harvests.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State government has closed all schools across Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin and Oke Ero following new security threats in the area.
The state’s education commissioner, Lawal Olohungbebe, said the decision was taken to keep students safe as security forces pursue armed groups operating around the region.
He noted that authorities want to prevent attackers from using children as cover while fleeing ongoing military operations.
