Bayelsa State deputy governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo Thursday afternoon slumped and was later confirmed dead in the hospital.
According to various reports he had just finishing meeting with representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) where children health matters were discussed and governor, Douye Diri, praised for his primary healthcare initiative.
He was climbing the staircase to his office when he suddenly collapsed and was promptly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa, where doctors confirmed that he had passed.
Ewhrudjakpo, aged 60, was elected in February 2020 with Diri after serving for a few months in the Senate representing Bayelsa West.
Before he was elected Deputy Governor, he was Commissioner of Works under former Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.
He was from Ofoni community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
