Minister of Finance, Budget and National planing Zainab Ahmed has been invited by the House of Representatives committee investigating the petroleum subsidy regime.
Mrs. Ahmed has been mandated to present all relevant documents on oil subsidy since 2013. The Minister was not present at Tuesday’s hearing, she rather sent a director in the Ministry Stephen Okon to represent he. Chairman of the committee, Hon. Ibrahim Aliyu, then issued the summons for the Mrs. Ahmed to appear at the next hearing.
Okon told the lawmakers, that the Minister was not present because she doesn’t want to present information that has not be processed to the committee. However Hon Aliyu insisted that the Minister must appear before the committee to explain most especially, her statements recently that the country would need N6.7trillion to make subsidy payments.
