In football everything is going on well for Morocco, being the first African team to reach the semi-final of the World Cup, the highest rated team in Africa, so winning the African Cup of Nations for them is a driving ambition.
As they take on Comoros Island in group A of the 2025 AFCON, coach Walid Regragui, said they would be doing all the right things to ensure they don’t disappoint their teeming fans who have for long waited for the Atlas Lions to justify their high ratings.
“We have been working for two years. It will be a big day, at home. Our objective has always been to win the AFCON and to give everything. Our supporters are with us.
“We will have to manage emotions and play with confidence and humility
“Hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has long been a dream,” Regragui said.
“Our goal is to win the title in front of our fans and to deliver the best tournament possible.”
Morocco is considered among the leading contenders for the title, including in some artificial intelligence-based projections, Regragui said, while cautioning that African football remains highly competitive and prone to surprises.
Their only win of the AFCON title was in 1988 when they beat Cameroon in the final in Rabat.
