Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is facing a career crisis as a knee injury has sparked speculation about his future in the German League.
Boniface is on loan at Werder Bremen and has barely registered his presence with a commanding performance before the latest injury set back.
The club’s sporting director Clemens Fritz said they have to wait and see if Boniface will recover before taking a decision on whether to keep the 13 caps and no goal Super Eagles’ player.
“Victor is injured at the moment and we are in contact with the Leverkusen doctors. We want to let it calm down a bit for now,” Fritz told Deichstube
“He’ll switch off for a few days, but then we’ll have to see how it develops.”
The sporting director highlighted that the degree to which the knee injury affects Boniface will determine the next steps, adding that “after that, however, the topic of ‘sporting future’ could well be on the table.”
Boniface in the summer tried to join AC Milan, but according to the Italian club officials, his record of knee injuries was a major concern for them. They pulled out of the deal to chagrin of the former Sunshine of Akure player.
He returned to Bayer Leverkusen and joined Werder Bremen on loan. He has only made two assists this season before the injury.
So far the extent of the injury remains unknown.
