Ahead of the group C Africa Cup of Nations tie between Nigeria and Tunisia, Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has disclosed that the Carthage Eagles dismissing Nigeria at the 2021 tournaments still hurts.
Ndidi who was in the round of 16 ousting of the Super Eagles by Tunisa in Cameroon said, he and his teammates are determined to make things with a win on Saturday night. The game will determine who tops group C with both having won their opening game aiming to establish their superiority.
At the 2019 tournament in Egypt, the Super Eagles beat Tunisia an old foe with a 1-0 win to win the third place, and the Carthage Eagles took their revenge in the 2021 edition.
“That loss hurt a lot because we were flying then. But this is a new team, a new challenge and a fresh opportunity to write our own story,” Ndidi said.
“We know what is at stake. We are physically ready, mentally strong and very confident about what we want to achieve as a team,” Ndidi added.
Meanwhile Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, said Tunisia are a tricky side and the Super Eagle must come up with the tactics to outwit them.
“Tunisia are a great and very tricky team. We must decide whether to stay true to our philosophy or adapt slightly to counter their strengths,” Chelle said.
“We must fight for every ball, stay compact and be decisive when we have possession. At this level, details and mentality make the difference,” he added.
The Super Eagles beat Tanzania 2–1, while Tunisia opened their campaign with a 3–1 victory over Uganda, setting up a high-stakes.
