Wilfred Ndidi was over the moon scoring his first ever Super Eagles goal in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Tunisia in their group C Africa Cup of Nations tie on Saturday night.
To celebrate the goal at the Fez Stadium in Morocco, Ndidi mimicked Nwankwo Kanu’s goal celebration after he smashed home the winning goal in Nigeria 4-3 come back win against Brazil in the semi final match of the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games football event.
Ndidi said his dad is a great fan of Kanu who wears the number 4 jersey just like the Super Eagles captain. And his dad often told him of the great exploit of the Nigeria Olympics team who went on to beat Argentina in the final 3-2 to win the gold medal.
“I just remember my dad, my dad always talk about Kanu and all. So I said I kind of saw the video and then I said oh I will do that one for my dad.”
He added that scoring his first goal for the Super Eagles was special.
“It was really special, after a decade scoring my first goal is really amazing and we got the win which is more important.”
